Temple of Jupiter Anxur
Frangipane Castle
The Frangipane Castle, also known as Rocca Traversa, risale all’anno mille e si trova nella parte alta di Terracina. Appartenente alla potente famiglia romana dei Frangipane, fu theater of struggles for the Municipal Libertas. After their expulsion in 1202, the castle is now managed by the City of Terracina Foundation and open to the public, offering an exhibition on its thousand-year history.
Roman Theater
In the heart of Terracina's Historic Center, in front of the town hall and next to the Cathedral, are the remains of the Roman Theater. Piazza Municipio è unico al mondo con il potere politico, religioso e il teatro nella stessa piazza. Il Teatro, risalente al 70-60 a.C., è emerso dopo i bombardamenti del 1943. Gli scavi negli anni ’60 hanno portato alla luce l’imponente Teatro Romano, con una capacità di circa 3000 persone, con gradinate originali in calcare.
Terracina Cathedral
The Terracina Cathedral, the main place of worship in the area and one of the most important in lower Latium, stands on the foundations of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter, Minerva and Juno, costruito nel VI secolo. Nel corso del tempo, la cattedrale ha subito vari restauri, l’ultimo nel 1926. Il campanile in stile normanno, risalente al XII secolo, potrebbe essere stato eretto dalla stessa persona che si occupò del campanile del Duomo di Gaeta. La struttura attuale presenta tre navate, originariamente erano cinque.
Pontine Islands
